형이상학과 감각 : 한용운 시에서의 감각의 위상

Abstract

불교에서는 눈, 귀, 코, 혀, 피부, 그리고 마음(뜻)을 여섯 개의 감각 기관으로 보면서 감각은 본체를 감추는 허상에 불과한 것이라고 여겼다. 그럼에도 불교적 언설에서는 추상적 진리를 감각적 언어를 통해 구현함으로써 감각과 선적 사유의 연결성을보여준다. 한용운도 언어라는 것이 진리를 직접적으로 드러내지는 못하지만 언어를 통해 형이상학에 근접할 수 있다고 생각했기에, 감각적 언어를 불립문자의 장벽을 넘는 도구로 삼았다. 그래서 ‘침묵’으로 통칭되는 한용운의 형이상학 내부에는 강렬한 감각의세계와 감각의 언어가 있다. 감각적 언어는 깨어진 사랑을 생생하게 재현하면서 현재의 결핍을 이겨내게 하는 힘을 준다. 또한 감각적 언어는 변화하는 세계상에 대응하며 유연하게 변전하면서 진리에 근접해간다. 이것은 침묵과 소리, 부재와 현존 사이에서 변전하며, 이별의 상황을 역전시키고 침묵을 노래하게 한다. 한용운의 문학에서 감각적 언어는 형이상학의 고도를 구체적이고 일반적인 삶의지평으로 변전시킴으로써, 우리시의 형이상학이 어떻게 시문학의 보편적인 원리를 실현하고 있는가를 구체적으로 입증해주며, 동시에 불교 철학과 서양의 감각론이 소통될 수 있는 가능성을 보여주었다. 또한 이 과정에서 일구어낸 ‘노래’ ‘발자취’ ‘수’ 등의 이미지는 불교적 형이상학을 시적인 언어로 육화(肉化)한 견고하고도 명료한 결과물로서 높이 평가할 수 있다.

Then, how the logic that connects literature, reality, and Buddhist world can be made? The logic that a silence becomes a song and a separation becomes a meeting is explained as the metaphysics of Zen Buddhism or the language of paradox. By the way, there are a world of intense senses and a language of senses in the inside of metaphysics. Although Han Yong-un was aware of the limits of the language, he also made attempts to express the world of truth through the language at the same time. The sensual language becomes a tool to challenge the limits of Bulipmunja (不立文字). A lot of sensual images appear in <Silence of Lover>. Particularly, the scene of separation is composed of impressive and intense images. The world of senses hidden inside silence appears as a strong power that changes a silence into a song. However, these sensual images are not fixed. They constantly change in response to the changing world. In addition, they have a linguistic adventure to approach the truth. The song, footprint, embroidery, etc. are the solid images obtained in this process. In the inside of the metaphysical world of Han Yong-un, there was a sensual language that vividly recreates and changes reality. This makes the whole triangle communicate and at the same time shows the status of his poetry.
