- Abstract
- The use of virtual avatars to communicate with each other is interactive in a mobile communication environment, but creating and controlling the motion of a highly articulated 3D virtual avatar in real time mobile environmentis difficult task. In this paper we present a motion control interface technique for 3D mobile avatar in a mobile communication environmentusing an intuitive six degree of freedom (6DOF) gesture input device, which includes Magnetic, Angular Rate, and Gravity (MARG) sensors. We demonstrate that user can author and control avatar behaviors from a small and flexible database of poses and gestures in real time on a mobile platform.A dynamic time warping (DTW) based real time hand gesture recognition for gesture mapping is used to synthesize motions using pose interpolation. This system provides tools for expression and communication in a 3D virtual mobile communication environment.
