Abstract

Many writings by ancient scholars were often passed down improperly due to many historical events in China. So, in modern days, there is an increasing number of scholars who want to get it solved academically. We call this effort ‘Compilation’. After the Qing Dynasty, when the work of Compilation had begun in earnest, many scholars conducted the compilation work with various methods. First, there were ancient books in the past, but some of their contents were lost. Second, there were cases in which there were not original books, but only some sentences. The third method is compiling the sentences partially, namely, historical investigation of literature. There are several characteristics of Lu Xun's compilation work. First, Lu Xun’s compilation work had a wide range of references from which he collected. Second, Lu Xun’s compilation work was conducted under a well-established Sentence Rule System, so the sentences compiled by these rules were comparatively perfect. Third, Lu Xun’s compilation work was closely combined with compilation and emendation. Based on these principles, Lu Xun included several contents to his compilation work. First, there are 10 books of 『Kuijiqungushuzaji(會稽郡故書雜集)』 in 8 types. Second, there are 36 books of 『Guxiaoshougouchen(古小說鉤沉)』in 36 types. This work was started to describe 『zhongguoxiaoshuoshilüe(中國小說史略)』. Third, as the compilation of historical books in a style of JiChuanti(紀傳體), there are three types as follows. Fourth, there was 『Jikangji(嵇康集)』. This book has a characteristic of ‘Emendation’, but compilation work was also conducted in some parts.
