Abstract
이 연구의 목적은 한국 대학생들의 듣기 전략 사용 양상을 고찰하여, 듣기 교육의 방향을 재설정하는 데 있다. 그 동안 의사소통 관련 연구에서 말하기에 비해 크게 주목받지 못했던 듣기의 중요성을 부각시키고 듣기 전략의 필요성을 논의하고자 하였다. 듣기는 자연스럽게 숙달되는 것이 아니라 특정한 교육이 필요 없고, 교육을 하더라도 평가가 어렵기 때문에 학교 교육에서 적극적으로 다루어지지 않았다. 그러나 자기주장만 난무하고 소통이 부재한 현대사회에서 듣기는 필수적인 요소이다. 이 연구에서는 Larry L. Barker & Kittie Watson(2000)의 PIER 듣기 모델로 전략의 틀을 잡은 후, 대학생들을 대상으로 대화상의 듣기 전략을 설문으로 조사하였다. 듣기 전략 설문의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생들은 듣기를 할 때 전략을 골고루 사용하기보다는 반응하기 전략에 더 중점을 두고 있었다. 둘째, 대학생들은 상대방을 배려하는 듣기 태도를 가지고 있다. 셋째, 듣기 전략이 다양하게 사용되지 못하였다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 대학생들에게 듣기 전략 사용의 필요성을 강조하고, 다양한 듣기 전략을 교육해야 한다고 주장한다.
This study aims to re-establish the current stature of auditory education by investigating the listening strategies of Korean undergra duates, since prior researches on communication often neglected the importance of auditory education. Since auditory proficiency is naturally obtained and difficult to evaluate, it has not been actively dealt as a subject of education. However, in our modern society manifested with personal opinions and a lack of communication, listening is an impera tive skill. This study identified the listening strategies of Korean undergraduates by conducting surveys, and the results are like the following. First, undergraduates focused more on their listening attitudes than strategies. Second, the undergraduates' listening attitudes were generally considerate. Third, diverse listening strategies were not utiliz ed. Thus this study argues that the importance of listening strategies must be emphasized and that diverse listening strategies must be taught as a subject of education.
