위인그림책 읽기활동이 유아의 반편견 인식에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 위인그림책 읽기가 만 5세 유아의 반편견 인식에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 알아보는데 있다. 이를 위하여 G시에 위치한 어린이집 만 5세 유아 38명을 연구대상으로 선정하여 실험집단과 통제집단으로 나누었다. 실험집단 유아들에게는 인종차별, 가난, 장애, 성차별, 결손가정 등 개인적 어려움을 극복하고 공공의 이익을 추구하는 리더로서 삶을 살다 간 위인에 관한 전기 그림책 8권을 16회에 걸쳐 읽어주었다. 통제집단의 경우 위인그림책 읽기 없이 기존의 교육과정만을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 위인그림책 읽기를 진행한 실험집단 유아의 사후 반편견 인식 검사 점수가 통제집단 유아의 사후 반편견 인식 검사 점수보다 통계적으로 유의미한 수준에서 높은 것으로 나타났다. 위인그림책이 반편견적 사고 증진에 효과적인 교수매체임을 실증한 본 연구 결과는 유아교육 현장에서 전기 그림책 읽기를 적극적으로 실시할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study was to examine how picture book biographies influence young children's anti-bias perspective. The participants were thirty eight children of age 5 from a kindergarten in Jeollabukdo. The participants of the present study were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group participated picture book biographies reading activities whereas the control group received regular instruction based on the existing curriculum. The results showed that there was a statistically signifiant difference in the two groups' scores on the anti-bias test. Specifically, the experimental group received significantly lower scores in the five areas than the control group: race, appearance, social status, ability and family composition. The findings of the study suggested that reading picture book biographies is very effective teaching method for anti-bias education for young children.
