수사적 민감성 척도를 활용한 세대별 의사소통 양상 분석

Abstract

이 연구의 목적은 수사적 민감성 유형을 세대별로 분석하여 그 특징을 이해하는 데 있다. 수사적 민감성은 Hart & Burks(1972)에서 제안된 개념으로 대인 의사소통 상황에서 개인의 의사소통 성향을 분석하는 데 유용한 개념이다. 이 연구에서는 이 수사적 민감성에 대한 세대별 비교를 위해 Eadie & Powell(1991)에서 개발된 ‘RHETSEN 2’를 한국어로 번역하여 사용하였다. 이번 연구에는 남성 261명, 여성 254명 총 515명이 연구에 참여하였다. 이 연구를 통하여 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 한국인의 의사소통 유형은 수사적 과민형이 가장 큰 비중을 차지한다. 둘째, 20대의 경우 상대를 즐겁게 하는 것이 의사소통에 있어 중요한 목표이다. 셋째, 젊은 세대는 자신의 느낌과 의견을 거리낌 없이 솔직하게 말하는 경향이 강하다. 넷째, 나이 든 세대는 상대의 기분에 과민하며 갈등을 회피하고 침묵을 유지하는 경향이 강하다. 결론적으로 이번의 수사적 민감성 척도를 활용한 한국인 세대의 의사소통 양상 연구는 의사소통에 나타난 한국 문화의 집단주의와 개인주의의 세대 전환을 확인할 수 있는 과정이었다. 또한 의사소통 양상이 문화에 영향을 받고 있으며 세대별로 특정한 소통 양식이 존재함을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 세대별 소통의 문제를 진단하고 해소 방법을 찾는 데 있어 의미 있는 기초 자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.

This study aims to analyze types of rhetorical sensitivity by generation and understand the characteristics thereof. Rhetorical sensitivity, proposed by Hart and Burks (1972), is a useful concept in analyzing personal dispositions in interpersonal communication. To compare rhetorical sensitivity among generations, this study used the Korean translation of RHETSEN 2 developed by Eadie and Powell(1991). The survey was conducted on 515 people (261men and 254 women). The results can be summarized as follows. First, the general Korean rhetorical communication type is rhetorical reflectors. Second, a major goal of communication for those in their 20s is to entertain. Third, the more young generation have a strong tendency to speak out their feeling. Fourth, the more older generation are sensitive the mood and often use silence or avoidance tactics in consideration of the other party.
