Abstract
A new highly symmetric layered lead chloride material, Cs2PbCl2(NO3)(2) has been synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction method using Pb(NO3)(2), CsCl, and water at 240 degrees C. The structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Cs2PbCl2(NO3)(2) has a novel two-dimensional layered structure containing PbO4Cl4 polyhedra and NO3 trigonal planes. Cs2PbCl2(NO3)(2) is a novel variant on the layered perovskite theme, of which the structure is closely related to the n = 1 layered perovskite families, Detailed structural analysis, Infrared and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, and ion-exchange reactions of Cs2PbCl2(NO3)(2) are reported. Crystal data: Cs2PbCl2(NO3)(2), tetragonal, space group /4(1)/amd (No. 141), a = b = 5.6905(6) angstrom, c = 32.946(5) angstrom, V = 1066.9(2) angstrom(3), and Z = 4.
