- Abstract
- To characterize the optical transition of Eu3+ ions in YMg2Al3B6O17, solid-state reactions were carried out. Optical properties were investigated under excitation at 254 nm. A broad absorption band was exhibited at 200-320 nm in the obtained excitation spectra, which might favor application of this material in lamps. This might be attributable to charge transfer between Eu3+ ions and neighboring oxygen anions. Under 254 nm excitation, deep red emission due to the D-5(0) -> F-7(2) transition at 616 nm was observed. The doping concentration of Eu3+ in the YMg2Al3B6O17 host was quenched close to 28mol%. The Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of YMg2Al3B6O17:Eu3+ were (0.6704, 0,3294) in which correspond to deep red. However, the photoluminescence (PL) was inferior to that of Y2O3:Eu3+ by 30% in our experimental regime. The phosphor particles had good morphology with a diameter of similar to 2 mu m.
