- Abstract
- As a promising candidate for a short wavelength radiation source, we consider a plasma-loaded electromagnetic-wave wiggler free-electron laser (FEL). Fully nonlinear FEL evolution through the three-wave interaction is investigated in the mode for the explosive instability. A time-dependent, self-consistent set of FEL governing equations is derived. By employing a one-dimensional simulation for the FEL equations, we investigate the FEL performance and discuss the feasibility of a compact radiation source.
