Abstract
The performance of a Compton-suppressed gamma-ray detector using a transverse escape-suppression shield of BGO was analyzed by measuring two relevant factors, the suppression ratio and the peak-to-total ratio. The suppression ratio varied from 2 to 6, depending on gamma-ray energy as two standard sources. Co-60 and Cs-137, were used. The peak-to-total ratio was improved by a factor of two or more when the escape shield was used. The suppression ratio of our detector was shown to be comparable to that of a Stony-Brook detector of a similar type.
