- Abstract
- The stonefish, Synanceja horrida, is found in the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific regions. The venom exudes from the glands attached to each side of the spine by mechanical pressure. Various symptoms include intense swelling at the site of the sting and in fatal cases, chest constriction, respiratory distress, convulsions and death. A 32-year old woman presented with painful, erythematous swollen patches with vesicles on her right lower extremities.
