1970년대 한국영화에 나타나는 여성 노동자의 계급적 상상력

Abstract

1970년대 영화계는 끊임없이 불황과 ‘질적 저하’라는 오명 속에서 싸워야 했다. 때문에 1970년대 영화들은 유사한 상상력을 대량으로 복제해냈으며, 이러한 장르적 상상력은 비개봉관을 중심으로 구직을 위해 대도시로 올라온 하위 계급 노동자들과 청소년들에게 오랫동안 반복적으로 각인되었다. 따라서 1970년대 한국영화의 성격을 파악하는 데에 있어서 ‘1970년대 노동자’와 ‘장르적 상상력’의 관계는 매우 중요하다. 특히 이들 가운데에서도 이 글이 여성 노동자라는 특정 집단에 집중하고자 하는 이유는 이들이 그만큼 독특한 성격을 갖고 있었기 때문이다. 오랫동안 여성의 활동은 가정이라는 사적 영역 안에 제한되어 있었다. 그러나 경공업 중심의 산업화 사회에서 부족한 노동력을 보충하기 위해서는 여성의 노동력을 공적 영역으로 와야 했고, 이에 따라 여성에 대한 대중적 담론과 이데올로기를 새롭게 정립할 필요가 있었다. 그러나 다른 한편으로 이들을 유용한 노동자군으로 만들기 위한 하나의 방편으로 이들에 대한 ‘성적 통제’가 이루어졌다. 따라서 1970년대의 10~20대 여성 노동자들은 여성으로서 자신들의 섹슈얼리티를 둘러싸고 만들어진 사회적 담론들 속에서 엄청난 모순을 느끼면서도 동시에 그것을 내면화하여 여성이자 노동자로서의 독특한 정체성을 구축해나갔다. 이와 같이 1970년대 여성 노동자들이 스스로를 하나의 계급으로 상상하는 방식을 구체화하기 위해서 먼저 당시 여성 노동자들의 생활과 그들과 관련된 몇몇 개인적인 진술들을 살펴볼 것이다. 또한 이들이 사회적으로 이미지화 되는 방식이나 이들을 둘러싼 담론이 형성되는 방식의 상징적 차원은 당시의 신문 기사들 속에서 찾아보고자 한다. 이는 실제의 그녀들에 가깝지는 않을지 몰라도 적어도 대중적으로 그녀들이 어떻게 이미지화 되고 상상되었는지를 보여줄 수 있는 것이다. 그리고 이렇게 구체화 된 여성 노동자들의 정체성이 영화 속에는 어떻게 재현되고 있었고, 궁극적으로 이러한 재현의 차원이 어떻게 당시 여성노동자들의 정체성을 형성하는 데에 있어서 일종의 상상적 차원으로 작용했는지에 대해서도 알아볼 것이다. 이를 위해 특히 1970년대에 나왔던 멜로드라마 영화들을 주요한 분석의 대상으로 한다.

1970s’ Korean cinema constantly fought with business depression and ‘qualitative decline’. So 1970s’ cinema made a reproduction of same imaginations, which were imprinted to subordinate workers and youths who come up to Seoul for finding a work, around non-first-run theater. Therefore, the relationship with ‘1970s’ labor’ and ‘genre imagination’ is very important to enter into the substance of comtemporary Korean cinema. Especially I focused on the particular group of female workers. For a long time, women activity was limited to private sphere. But in the term of light industrial society female labor was necessary to make good the shortage of male labor, thus public discourse and ideology on women were newly established. On the other hand, as a way of organizing her to the useful working class, 'female sexuality' was controlled by society. Consequently, 1970s' female workers of the youth internalized and forged the special identity both of woman and worker in the contradiction between own her feminity and the social discourse. Likewise for I give shape to how 1970s' female workers imagine themselves as a particular class, I will search on the oral life history about the comtemporary female worker's reality. And I will look for them the methods of imagery, composition of discourse in the then journal article. Although these is not close to real life of them, at least I will suggest for how to imagine them with the wider public. Futhermore I trace to the mode of representation of female workers in 1970s’ Korean cinema, and ultimately the mode of interaction between filmic representation and real identity of them. To achieve this, I target at the melodrama genre in 1970s’ Korean cinema.
