스마트폰 이용자들의 원격현전 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구 : 비릴리오의 속도론과 ‘감각의 마비’를 중심으로

Abstract

스마트폰은 인간관계를 맺는 방식의 다양성을 가져왔다. 스마트폰 이전의 문자 메시지가 유료 콘텐츠였다면, 최근 ‘카카오톡’을 비롯한 스마트폰의 다양한 어플리케이션은 무료 문자 메시지의 이용과 메시지 교환을 통해 새로운 이용자 관계와 경험을 가능케 하고 있기 때문이다. 비릴리오는 시공간의 변화에 수반되는 미디어와 이용자 감각의 변화를 중심으로 인간의 존재 및 지각 방식을 탐구한다. 특히, 인간의오감 중 가장 대표적인 지각방식으로 평가되고 있는 시각에 초점을 두고, 현대 영상 미디어와 디지털 미디어, 그리고 이용자 감각의 문제를 비판적으로 분석하고 있다. 그 중심 개념들이 원격현전과 드로몰로지 그리고 감각의 마비다. 이 연구의 목적은 스마트폰 이용자가 경험하는 원격현전과 감각의 마비 경험에 대한 현상학적 접근을 통해 미디어 이용과 몰입을 통해 나타나는 사회·문화적 현상, 그 본질적 의미 그리고 일상의 변화 및 문제점 등을 분석하는 데 있다. 현상학적 분석 방법의 적용 이유는 이용자의 스마트폰 이용경험에 대한 연구자의 선입견을 배제하고 특정 경험과 현상에 대한 의미의 본질적 특성을 도출하는 데 유의미하기 때문이다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze smartphone users’xperiences by phenomenological methodology. Smartphones enable people to have a diversity of ways to make a relationship. As some recent smartphone applications including ‘Kakao talk’ provide free messaging services, people can exchange messages on a consistent basis, feeling as if they chat. Paul Virilio has studied existence and perception means of human beings based on changes of space and time. The sense of vision is considered as the most primary sense among the five human senses, and so the contemporary society is called ‘Era of image’. Images basically mean visual existence and all kinds of current digital media are accordingly based on the sense of vision. This study mainly focuses on interpreting phenomenon, meaning and changes of daily life resulting from the use of media by analyzing telepresence and sense paralysis of smartphone users on a phenomenological basis. The reason why phenomenological methodology is chosen for this study is to exclude the researcher’s prejudice against the smartphone users’ experience and further draw an intrinsic conclusion of specific experience and phenomena.
