토론문 쓰기를 활용한 외국인 유학생 대상 교양 토론 수업 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 외국인 유학생을 위한 대학 교양 교과 과정 중 텍스트를 읽고 찬반토론을 하는 수업에 대한 연구로, 토론문 쓰기를 활용한 교양 토론 수업 모형을 제시하는 데에 목적이 있다. ‘토론’은 즉석에서 상대방의 주장을 이해하고 바로 이에 해당하는 반박을 함으로써 상대방을 설득해야 하기에 외국인 유학생들은 한국어에 대한 부담으로 긴장하고, 이로 인해 준비한 것에 비해 부족한 토론 양상을 보여줄 수 있다. 따라서 토론 전, 찬성과 반대의 역할을 먼저 나누어서 본인의 역할에 해당하는 토론 준비를 하며 상대방의 주장을 예상하게 해 봄으로써 원활한 토론이 진행되도록 하였다. 토론 전 다양한 활동들을 통해 토론 팀은 자신의 의견을 보다 명확하게 제시할 수 있으며 스스로 논제를 준비하고 상의하는 과정을 통해 토론 상황에 자연스럽게 노출될 수 있다. 이때 단순히 토론을 준비하는 것과 논리적 흐름을 정리해 볼 수 있는 토론문을 작성하는 것은 실제 토론에서 다른 결과를 가져온다. 따라서 토론 전 보다 면밀한 토론문 쓰기 과정이 필요한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 실제 대학 교양 토론 수업에서의 문제와 상황을 중심으로 수업 모형을 고안하였다. 외국인 유학생들이 상대방을 논리적으로 설득하기 위한 준비 과정 중 하나로 토론문 쓰기를 함으로써 보다 적극적으로 수업 중 토론에 임할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

This study is concerned with a class in the college liberal arts curriculum for foreign students, in which they read texts and conduct pro-con debates and proposes a liberal arts debate class model utilizing writing debate scripts. In a ‘debate,’ since one should immediately understand others’ argument and persuade them by relevantly refuting that, right away, foreign students may be nervous because of a burden for Korean and show insufficient debate aspects as compared to what they have prepared, accordingly. Therefore, before the debate, first, their roles were divided into the pros and cons, so that smooth debates could be conducted by preparing the debate for their roles and predicting the other party’s arguments. Through various activities before the debate, the members of the debate team can express their opinions more clearly, and through the process of preparing topics for discussion themselves and discussing them, they can naturally be exposed to the debate. However, simply preparing debates and drawing up debate scripts, by which logical flows can be prepared, show different discussion results. Thus, a more meticulous process of writing debate scripts is needed before the debate. Therefore, this study devised a class model, focusing on the problems and situations in the actual liberal arts debate class and through writing debate scripts as one of the processes for preparation in which foreign students can logically persuade the others, they can more actively participate in debates during the class.
