라이트 아트에서 빛의 기능에 관한 연구

Abstract

빛은 오래된 예술의 관심사로서 다양한 형태로 미술사에 나타났다. 종교적 상징에서 출발하여 회화의 기본 구성 요소, 기술 발전의 상징 등 다양한 의미로 표현되어왔다. 현대 미술에 이르러서 빛은 표현 대상으로서만이 아닌 표현 매체로써 사용되기 시작하였고 빛을 표현 매체로 사용하는 예술을 라이트 아트라 칭하게 되었다. 라이트 아트에서 빛은 전통적 의미와 기능에서 벗어나 새로운 도구로서 사용되었다. 특히 빛은 비물질적 속성으로 인해 움직임을 통해 시공간을 변형시키며, 사람들의 인식 및 감정을 자극하여 변화시키고, 이목을 집중시킨다. 또한 자본주의 사회가 발전함에 따라 빛은 사람들의 시선을 끌기 위해 사용되었고, 이러한 빛의 쓰임새는 라이트 아트에서도 나타나게 된다. 이와 같은 빛의 의미 및 기능들은 본 논문의 사례 분석을 통해 동시대 미술에서도 유효함을 알 수 있다. 현재는 더 다양한 형태와 개념, 과학 기술 등이 예술에 접목되고 있다. 이를 통해 예술의 표현 매체로서 빛이 더 다양한 의미를 가지게 될 것으로 기대된다.

Light has appeared in various forms in art history as an interest in old art. It has been expressed in various meanings, starting from religious symbol, such as basic element of painting, symbol of technological development. By the time of modern art, light began to be used not only as a subject of expression but as an expression medium, the art of using light as a medium of expression was called Light Art. Especially, because of the non-material properties of light, light transforms space and time through movement, stimulates people's perception and emotions, and focuses attention. Also, as capitalist society develops, light is used to attract people's attention, and these uses of light are also seen in art. These meanings of light can be found in contemporary art through case analysis in this paper. At present, more diverse forms, concepts and technology are combined with art. Therefore, it is expected that light will become more various meaning as medium of expression of art.
