웹툰에 대한 청소년의 제3자 편향 지각과 규제 태도에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 최근 증가하고 있는 청소년의 웹툰 이용과 관련해 이용행태와 함께 청소년집단에서도 제3자 편향지각 현상이 발생하는지, 수용자 특성 변인들과 제3자 편향지각이 웹툰 규제 태도에 영향을 미치는 지에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 중학생과 고등학생 240명을 대상으로 인터넷패널 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석결과, 중·고생들의 웹툰 이용시간은 하루 평균 1시간 2분(중학생 1시간 8분, 고등학생 57분)으로, 하루 평균스마트폰 이용량(5시간 40분)의 5분 1일에 해당하였다. 여학생(1시간 7분)이 남학생(51 분)보다 약간 더 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 1주일에 평균 5.25일 동안 웹툰을 이용하며, 매일 이용하는 비율이 가장 많은 52.1%이었다. 코믹/개그 장르를 가장 많이 이용하며, 순정/로맨스, 드라마, 판타지 순서로 나타났다. 중·고생들은 웹툰에 욕설이나 저속한 언어표현이 가장 많으며, 폭력·살인도 많은 것으로 평가하였다. 이들 청소년들은웹툰의 부정적 내용이 자신에게 미치는 영향은 낮으며, 이보다는 또래 친구들, 자신들보다 나이어린 어린이와 청소년들이 더 부정적인 영향을 받으며, 성인들도 자신들보다더 부정적 영향을 받을 것이라고 편향 지각하였다. 부정적 내용을 가진 웹툰에 대한 청소년들의 제3자 편향지각은 ‘자기 자신 < 성인 < 또래 친구들 < 자신보다 나이 어린 어린이·청소년’의 순서로 강하게 나타났다. 사회적 거리에 따른 웹툰의 부정적 영향이발견되었지만, 중·고생들의 웹툰 지속이용의도는 평균 4.15점(5점 척도)으로 높게 나타났다. 웹툰의 부정적 내용에 대한 심의 강화, 청소년들을 보호하기 위한 웹툰에 대한포괄적 규제는 제3자 편향지각보다는 웹툰 내용에 대한 평가, 자기 자신에게 미치는 부정적 영향에 의해 설명되는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 제3자효과이론의 설명과는차이를 보이는 것으로, 이의 함의점에 대해 논의하였다.

This study explored third-person effect on adolescents utilization of webtoons that contained illegal, unethical, sexual, and/or violent content. Based on Internet panel survey, a total of 240 middle and high school students participated in this study. The results showed that average webtoon usage of the adolescents was 1 hour 2 minutes per day, explaining 18.2% of the average smart-phone usage(5 hours 40minutes). Female students(1 hour 7 minutes) used webtoons more than male students(51 minutes). The adolescent respondents enjoyed comic/gag, romance, drama, fantasy genres of webtoons. This study identified the third-person perception that younger children and youths, peer group, and even adults would be more influenced than themselves by negative content of webtoons. Even though the third-person perception was identified, the adolescents’ continued intention to use webtoons was relatively very high. Both the strengthening of standards on content of webtoons and the comprehensive regulation on webtoons in order to protect adolescents were not explained by the third-person perception, but evaluations on harmful content of webtoons and negative influences on themselves.
