- Abstract
- Internet technology and the development of cyberspace have taken society to the next level of evolution. It leads many criminologists to be interested in this subject, Cyber criminology. Though the term of 'cybercrime' is accepted as common, but the concern about 'cyber criminology' is not so good yet. The reason is because current criminologists regard the nature of cyber crime as same as that of real crime at physical space and it is enough to deal with cyber crime through legislation or interpretation considering the speciality of cyber space.
But theories of existing criminology have a limit to explain these criminal behaviors on cyber space. In the future, more crimes will occur in cyber space rather than physical space and these overwhelm with the scale and range, so we have much to be interested in cyber criminology. The crime of cyber space has a difference with that of real space.
I introduced many criminology theories and new theory of Jaishankar, Space Transition Theory of Cyber crimes in this study. The Space Transition Theory provides an explanation for the criminal behavior in the cyber space, and this theory is different past criminological theories. But the author said, it is need to test the space transition theory to see if it explains cyber criminal activity.
Cyber criminology is a multidisciplinary field that encompasses researchers from various fields such as criminology, victimology, sociology, Internet science, and computer science. So we have to consider information technical knowledge and internet science with theoretical aspects of cyber crime. And the research collaboration among various professionals such as professors, technocats, industries. I think the more studies and developments for cyber criminology would be necessary for combating cyber crimes.
