푸코의 ‘규율권력’의 관점에서 퍼실리테이션 실제에 대한 재조명 : 인간중심의 상호작용 가능성을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 푸코의 규율권력의 개념을 토대로 퍼실리테이션의 양상과 성격을 분석하고, 그 대안으로 푸코의 생명권력 관점에서 퍼실리테이션의 인간중심 상호작용의 가능성을 탐색하였다. 푸코의 규율권력은 분할의 기술, 활동의 통제, 생성과 형성, 역량의 조합 등 4가지의 기법과 위계적 관찰, 규범적 제재, 시험 등 3가지의 도구를 활용하여 인간을 은밀하게 감시하고 억압적으로 통제한다. 연구 결과에 따르면 퍼실리테이터가 인간중심의 상호작용을 촉진하기 위해 지향해야 할 관점은 세 가지로 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 개방적인 상호작용 가운데 학습자가 새로운 것을 받아들일 수 있도록 자신의 의견을 확장하도록 한다. 둘째, 학습자의 핵심가치나 신념이 거시적 관점의 교육목표와 연결될 수 있게 지원한다. 셋째, 학습자 고유의 사유가 자신만의 정체성과 자율성이 충분히 발현되도록 환경을 조성한다. 향후 퍼실리테이션의 활동은 규율권력에 머물지 않고 생명권력의 본질에 대한 이해와 실천에 기반하여 학습자 참여를 우선하는 인간중심의 상호작용이 핵심 과제가 되어야 할 것이다.

This study is an attempt to look into the potential for improvement based on Foucault's analysis of the technology-oriented issues of facilitation without taking into account the personal characteristics or desires of learners in adult education. According to Foucault, disciplinary powers use the seven kinds of techniques and means. These are distributed with two categories, which are docile bodies and the means of correct training. Docile bodies are the art of distributions, the control of activity, the organization of geneses, and the composition of forces. The means of correct training are hierarchical observation, normalizing judgement, and the examination. In particular, the understanding of the mechanism of action of the bio-power, another form of power discovered later by Foucault, could provide clues to the potential to overcome the aspects of the disciplinary power's secret monitoring and suppression. Through an understanding of disciplinary power and bio-power, there are three possibilities when human-oriented bio-power is applied to techniques-oriented education of facilitation. First, it is an open interaction of the learner's opinion that allows the learner to embrace new things and expand his or her power. Second, it can help to internalize the learner's own core values or beliefs associated with inherent educational goals. Third, it can help students to freely express their own reasons by creating an atmosphere conducive to their own identity and autonomy.
