AI 로봇 소재 드라마에 나타난 기술적 대상과 객체화의 재현 양상 - TV드라마 <보그맘>을 중심으로

Abstract

인간과 구별되지 않는 AI 로봇을 주인공으로 등장시키는 <보그맘>은 소위 SF 판타지 장르에 속한다. 이세돌과 알파고와의 대국이 사람들에게 경이와 공포를 불러일으켰다면, 대국이 벌어진 지 1년 반 후에 연속적으로 방영된 <보그맘>은 이세돌과 알파고의 대국에 대한 유토피아적이고 디스토피아적인 속편에 해당된다. 특히 <보그맘>은 인공지능 로봇을 엄마로 기능 설정을 함으로써 모성 이데올로기와 가족 복원 이데올로기를 강조하는 판타지 드라마이다. 드라마 <보그맘>은 세계적인 과학자 최고봉이 국가(국정원)의 요청에 의해 비밀리에 최첨단 인공지능 로봇을 만들어 가정주부의 역할을 맡기면서 생기는 이야기를 담고 있다. 보그맘은 가사노동과 유치원에서의 학부모 역할을 초인적으로 수행해낸다. 유치원의 비밀 엄마 모임인 ‘엘레강스’의 최고 권력자 도도혜는 과거 이미소와 고등학교에서의 열등감과 증오심 때문에 보그맘에 대해 지속적인 음모를 꾸민다. 이때 보그맘을 인간 이미소로 착각하는 학부모들은 일종의 착시 현상, 즉 왜상(歪像)에 동일시된 존재들로 그려진다. 천재 과학자에 의해 만들어진 인공지능 로봇 보그맘은 비록 인간은 아니지만 인간들보다 더 인간적으로 재현되고 있다. 그러나 보그맘은 현재로서는 불가능한 수준의 인공 로봇임에도 불구하고 최고봉의 가전(家電)이나 자동차를 부러워한다. 이는 보그맘이 인공지능을 지닌 가전(家電)과 자동차와 친족관계에 있음에도 불구하고 이들과 거리를 두고 있음을 말한다. 보그맘은 최고봉의 발명품이기 때문에 그의 자식이지만 동시에 율의 엄마로 만들어진 존재이기도 하다. 그런 점에서 보그맘은 혼란스러운 정체성을 지닌 ‘개체’로 나타난다. 보그맘-가전(家電)-최고봉이라는 3각 관계는 드라마가 보그맘이나 최고봉을 ‘기술적 대상의 앙상블’로 만들지 못했다는 증거가 된다.

The drama <Borg Mam> tells the story of what happens when a top international scientist, Choi, Gobong, creates an AI robot at the request of the nation (or NIS). Borg Mam performs superhuman roles in housework and child care. Borg Mam is a robot that imitates the appearance of Lee Miso, wife of Choi, Gobong, who died during the birth of his son Yul seven years ago. Dodohee, the supreme authority of “Elegance,” a kindergarten secret mothers’ gathering, has already been plotting on the way of the vogue because of the inferiority and hatred in the past and in high school. The parents who mistake the Borg Mam as a human being are depicted as a sort of optical phenomenon- that is, as beings with an anomaly. The AI robot, Borg Mam, created by a genius scientist is being reproduced more humanly than humans, though it is not human. However, Borg Mam is envious of the appliances and automobiles of Choi, Gobong, even though it is an artificial robot and such feelings are not possible at present. This means that Borg Mam is distant from them even though they are related to home appliances and automobiles through AI. Borg Mam is a child of Choi, Gobong, and she/thar is also Yul's mother. In that sense, Borg Mam appears as an “object” with a confusing identity. The relationship triangle of “Borg Mam/Home, Appliances/Choi, Gobong” is evidence that the drama did not make Borg Mam or Choi, Gobong, an “Ensemble of Technical Objects.”
