폴리포니 필름으로 본 공간적 특성 연구 -영화 <라쇼몽>을 중심으로-

Abstract

영화 라쇼몽에서 보여지는 캐릭터들의 목소리는 위기의 상황을 모면하기 위한 자의식이 빚어낸 기억의 부재이다. 등장인물들의 일치하지 않는 진술과 그 진술 속에 나타난 3가지의 전혀 다른 공간 나생문의 공간(폐허), 폴리포니로서의 재현 공간(숲속), 에고이즘적 진실의 공간(관아)은 당시 일본 국민들이 품고 있었던 전쟁의 패배로 인한 서로를 믿지 못하고 의심하는 사회적 병폐를 내포하고 있다. 이는 러시아의 문예비평가 M.바흐친의 폴리포니 이론과 일맥상통한다. 폴리포니 이론의 주요 핵심은 서로가 일치하지 않는 목소리들이 조화되지 않는 상태로 불일치를 이루지만, 그 각각의 목소리들은 자신의 세계를 스스로 구축하며 창작자의 영역에서 벗어나 소설 속에 참여 한다는 것이다. 본 연구는 바흐친의 폴리포니 이론이 폴리포니 필름으로서 영화적 구성을 기능하게 하고 영화 <라쇼몽>에 나타난 폴리포니 필름의 공간특성에 대해 논의하고자 한다.

The characters’ voices in the movie, Rashomon mean the absence of memories created by self-consciousness in order to avoid the crisis.The varying statements of the characters and the three spaces: the space of Nakanimon (the ruins), the representation space as polyphony (the forest), the egoistic space of truth (the guardian), show the social ills of doubtfulness and mistrust among the Japanese at that time due to the defeat from the war. This matches with the polyphony theory of Mr. Bakhtin, a Russian cultural critic. The key concept of polyphony theory is that the voices that do not accord each other are not harmonized but each voice builds their own world and participates in the novel without being influenced by the creator.This study’s aim is to discuss two aspects; Bakhtin’s polypony theory allows polyphony films to function as cinematic composition and spatial characteristics of polyphony films in the movie, Rashomon.
