동아시아 단절의 담론구성체 형성의 맥락에서 살펴본 3.1운동의 사상사적 전환의 공백

Abstract

이 글에서는 3.1운동 이면에 있는 곤경을 ‘사상사의 부재 또는 취약함’으로 해석한다. 이를 위해 3.1운동을 전후한 시기의 중국과 일본의 변동 그리고 일본과 중국에서 등장한 ‘단절의 역사 담론’과 비교해 보고 한국에서 전개된 사상사적 전환의노력과 한계를 살펴보려 한다. 이 글에서는 네 가지 관찰점을 검토한다. ① 20세기초 동아시아가 겪은 국제질서의 독특성, 그리고 중국과 일본에서 등장한 ‘단절의근대 담론’의 특징. ② 3.1운동과 중국 5.4운동의 비교. ③ 3.1운동이 형성시킨사상사적 질문. ④ 임시정부 법통의 질문이 사상사와 관련되어 제기되는 난점. 분석을 통해 우리는 ‘3.1운동 패러다임’의 문제를 확인하였는데, 이 패러다임은 ‘우리민족’의 경계를 한민족과 이를 탄압하는 일본 제국주의로 구획하는 대신, 우리 내부에서는 역사의 ‘단절’보다는 ‘연속’의 상상을 반복적으로 만들어내는 기능을 한다.

This paper investigates the plights of the March First Movement as consequent of a disregard for or an absence of thought history. To this end, this research compares Korea’s March First Movement with discourse of historical discontinuity with China and Japan, and examines efforts to both expand and limit ideological transformations in Korea. It engages this in four ways: 1) an analysis of geopolitics of East Asia, which was characterized with ‘discontinuous modernity’; 2) a comparison between the March First Movement and China’s May Fourth Movement; 3) a probe of thought and history and history of thought during the March First Movement; and 4) an investigation of provisional government difficulties raised in relation to the March First Movement. The findings suggest a ‘March 1st Movement paradigm’ that marks boundary lines between woori nara (our country), as Koreans, which functioned as a means of reifying an imagination of identity/ national continuity while under suppressive Japanese imperial rule.
