<사상의 월야> 연구

Abstract

이태준의 자전적 장편소설 「사상의 월야」는 신문 연재본과 그것을 해방 후에 개작한 단행본이 있다. 이 작품에 대한 기존의 평가는 그 개작 부분에 관한 판단 여하에 따라 긍정과 부정으로 크게 엇갈리는데, 그 어느 쪽이든 민족주의와 탈식민주의의 관점을 일방적으로 적용한 결과론적인 논의라는 한계를 드러낸다. 그리하여 이 논문은 「사상의 월야」의 실제적인 형성과정을 재구성하고 작품 전편의 서사구조를 심층적으로 조명하여 그 총체적 실상과 진실을 파악하고자 했다. 신문의 연재 기획과 작가의 집필 구상, 그리고 연재 중단의 이면을 살펴봄으로써 작품의 기본적 윤곽을 획정하고, 자서전과 소설의 교집합으로서의 자전소설이라는 양식원리를 기준으로 하여 「사상의 월야」에서 작가=주인공의 욕망과 작가=작품의 전망이 어떤 전개양상을 보이는지 분석했다. 그 결과 근대문명의 세계를 향한 작가=주인공의 욕망이 연재본의 경우 신체제의 국책담론을 추수했고 또한 단행본의 경우 해방정국의 이념노선에 편승함으로써 둘 다 전망의 날조로 귀착된 것임을 밝혔다. 요컨대 「사상의 월야」는 연재본이든 단행본이든 작가의 양심 내지 진정성과 관련하여 심각한 문제성을 드러내고 있는 작품인 것이다.

Yi, Tae Joon's autobiographical novel, The Moonlight Night of Thought at first had been serialized in the newspaper the Mae-Il Shinbo, and later was rewritten as the independent volume after the 1945 Liberation. The evaluations of the novel until now crossed each other greatly as positive or negative according to the judgement of the rewritten parts of the work. In either case they showed the inadequacy of criticism based on the result by one-sidedly applying nationalistic or post-colonialistic point of view to the work. Therefor this study tried to get hold of the total facts and reality by reconstructing the actual process that The Moonlight Night of Thought had been formed, and examining deeply the narrative structure of the work as a whole. So by way of searching over the serialization plan of the Mae-Il Shinbo, the writing map of the author, and the inside of the cessation, this paper could grasp the general idea of the work. And then by the criterion of the generic principles of the autobiographical novel as the intersection of the autobiography and the novel, it analysed the developing aspects of the author=the hero's desire and the perspective of the author=the work. As the result it made clear that in the serialized volume the author=the hero's desire oriented to the modern civilization had kept company with the political discourse of the Japanese military fascism, and in the independent volume it also hitchhiked the ideologic line of the political situation after 1945 Liberation. The two volumes in common were led into the fabrication of the perspective, though their tendencies were deferent each other. In sum either volume of The Moonlight Night of Thought discloses the severe problems related to the conscience or sincerity of the author.
