유아의 문제행동 지도 과정에서의 원장의 어려움 및 바람직한 역할모색

Abstract

본 연구는 유아교육기관의 원장이 유아의 문제행동을 지도하면서 현재 겪게 되는 어려움은 무엇이며 이를 지도하는데 있어 원장으로서 지향해야 할 보다 바람직한 원장역할은 무엇인지를 모색하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 7명의 유아교육기관 원장들(6명의 어린이집과 1명의 유치원원장)과 4개월에 걸쳐 13회의 면담을 진행하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 원장들은 유아들의 문제행동을 지도하면서 '교사의 전문적 지식부족 및 소극적 대처', '원장의 지식부족 및 실천적 결단력 부족', 그리고 '부모의 부정적 반응'으로 인한 어려움을 겪고 있었으며 이로 인해 소극적인 지도를 하고 있었다. 둘째, 유아의 문제행동을 지도하고 중재하는 데 있어서 지향해야 할 원장 역할에 대해선 '유아에 대한 관심', '교사와의 대화 및 모범적 역할수행', '자녀의 문제행동에 대한 부모상담 및 교육', 그리고 '국가적 지원에 대한 적극적 요구'면에서 보다 바람직한 원장역할을 인식하게 되었다. 본 연구는 유아교육 현장에서 여러 가지 문제행동을 보이는 유아를 적절히 지도하고 중재하기 위해 원장이 가져야 할 책임과 역할의 중요성을 알게 하고 이를 현장에 적용하도록 도울 것이다.

The aim of this study is to examine what kind of hardship child care directors in early childhood education centers are experiencing while they teach young children with behavioral problems and to find out the more valuable director's role in educating those children. To complete this purpose, seven child care directors were interviewed at 13 times for around 4 months. The results were as follows: first, child care directors were going through difficulties because of 'the deficit of teachers' professional understanding and passive actions', 'the deficit of their own confidence and determination for practice', and 'the negative response of parents,' while they were teaching young children with behavioral problems. Second, child care directors finally recognized the director's perception of more desirable roles in amending those children's problematic behaviors in terms of 'the concern for young children', 'the conversation with teachers and being a model', 'the knowledge accumulation of principal themselves', and 'the demand for supports from the government.' This study could be helpful for child care directors in early childhood education centers to learn what is the appropriate role or responsibility which is related to mediating young children with behavioral problems.
