- Abstract
- Clinical practice guidelines (CPG) are systematically developed statements to assist practitioners’ and patient’s decisions about appropriate health care for specific circumstances. CPG may be helpful to promote quality of care, to inform the standardization of care, and to reduce cost of health while some experts worry about the possibility of use of CPG in inappropriate way. Several studies suggested that experts agreed on the need and usefulness of CPG, but actual rate of use of CPG was lower than we expected, when making treatment decisions. Like that a dual-edged sword is needed to be handled carefully, we should maximize the usefulness and minimize the uselessness of CPG. (J of Kor Soc for Dep and Bip Disorders 2011;9:53-56)
