Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to identify the problems in current coach development program in artistic swimming and to suggest new educational programs for the coaches who are in charge of training elite artistic swimmers in the Republic of Korea. To identify the current problems in coach development program and to understand the orientation of the new educational program, interviews were done with five artistic swimming coaches whose field experiences were more than five years. The interviewees indicated that the biggest problem was that there had been no systematic educational program for current and future coaches in artistic swimming. They also indicated that anybody was able to coach artistic swimming because there was no certification program. The current study suggested a new educational program and the foreign cases of Australia and Canada who have been very successful in world artistic swimming competitions.
