- Abstract
- To evaluate the possibility of fine recycled-concrete aggregates(fine RCAs) as sand-foundation material under sewage conduits, both material and mechanical properties were intensively examined comparing with the properties of fine natural aggregates(natural sand). The material properties such as water absorption, density, solid content and sieve analysis examined by KS F 2573 method were suitable to meet most standards. The mechanical properties conducted from compaction, direct shear and triaxial test showed similar results from both recycled and natural sand samples. Consequently, if the quality of fine RCAs products is manageably good, the application of this fine RCAs as foundation material to replace natural sand is highly feasible. Careful compaction procedure during the construction procedure is the only requirement for the application of these material. Also, based on cost analysis between two materials, fine RCAs is very competitive.
