- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to analyze increased self-sufficiency of wheat in recent years in Japan, although the country’s overall food self-sufficiency is low. Infrastructure, varieties, production, distribution, and related government policy regarding wheat industry are investigated, which will provide implications and benchmarking practices to corresponding domestic production and distribution lines. In summary, it can be concluded that the recent rise of Japan’s wheat self-sufficiency is resulted from economic assistance and technical support by the government in addition to efforts in production and processing sectors. In other words, when all the sectors including production, processing, distribution, and consumption work together, the efforts would be achieved.
