Abstract
Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is one of the most powerful decision-making method for a complex problem such as a rational selection of a landfill site for wastes among many alternatives. Based on the AHP survey with four expert groups (professor/researcher group, government employee group, engineer group, NGO group), siting factors in various categories in the decision-making hierarchy were evaluated and compared with that of selection results of real domestic cases during last decades. Survey results in this study showed that the relative importance of order for detailed siting-factors was changed dramatically compared with the past results in the environmental or local conditions. However other categories such as social, technical and economical conditions showed slight fluctuation in the order of important for siting factors to select most suitable landfill site. Even though the same criteria for the optimal selection of a landfill site, the preference and validity of siting factors have shifted during the time by reflecting the social opinions and consciousness.
