- Abstract
- The outcomes(pain and functional assessment) of Nirschl procedure for lateral epicondylitis was compared with that of the arthroscopic procedure.
From June 2000 to June 2006, 37 patients were treated, 25 with Nirschl procedures and 12 with arthroscopic procedures. The mean age was 42(26~62)years old. The pain assessment were evaluated VAS at preoperation, postoperative 1 day, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and last follow up. The functional assessment were score of Roles and Maudsley and grip strength.
There was no significant difference of outcome at preoperation and last follow up. But, there was significant diffe- rence of amount of pain and functional assesment. Nirschl procedure needed 4.2 months to return to work, arthros- copic procedure needed 1.8 months, so there was significant difference(p<0.05).
Surgical procedure is expected to be a good outcome in case which conservative therapy is not responded in the treat- ment of lateral epicondylitis. We recommend that arthroscopic procedure is a reliable in the treatment of recalcitrant lateral epicondylitis because arthroscopic procedure is minimally invasive and allows early rehabilitation and return to normal acti- vities.
