Abstract
This study is designed to identify what makes the domestic exporting companies choose either a documentary-based payment method or an electronic payment system in international trade. To draw conclusions, the decision factors of domestic exporting companies for these two methods were examined to materialize the abstract concept of the study and to supplement weakness in the philological studies. The results of empirical analysis based on the study model and the hypothesis are summarized as follows. First, the types of exporting transactions show a statistically significant influence on the companies" decision of payment methods. This result of statistics is largely similar to the results of previous research. Second, centering on the relative importance of export for the past three years, it is evaluated how the relative importance of export influences either on the awareness of credit risk or on the awareness of political risk As a result, it turns out that the higher relative importance of export, the higher awareness levels of credit risk and political risk it shows. Third, after analyzing variables by types of electronic payment system, it is found that the preference for the traditional payment system due to the lack of understanding on the new payment system becomes the biggest obstacle to utilize the electronic payment system. Fourth, the exporting companies regard cost reduction as one of the most important factors in deciding a payment method in trading business, and that will eventually encourage them to favor the electronic payment system over the conventional method.
