Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of parents‘ educational expectations and parenting attitudes to parent-child attachment among female adolescents. Methods: Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and stepwise multiple regression methods. A data survey was conveniently conducted to 373 middle and high school female students in Seoul. Results: The mother attachment was higher than father attachment in female adolescents. There were significant mother attachment differences by school record, economic status, and alone time and father attachment differences by school record, economic status, occupation of father and mother, and alone time. Both parent attachment positively correlated to each parents’ attachment, parenting attitudes, and educational expectation. The most significant variables for mother attachment were father attachment, mothers' parenting attitudes, and mother’s educational expectation. The significant variables for fathers were mother attachment, and fathers' parenting attitudes. These 2 regression models explained 66.2%, and 68.7% of mother attachment and father attachment respectively. Conclusion: The above mentioned findings were identified as significant factors affecting parent attachment of female adolescents. The findings are expected to make a positive contribution to create an ideal intervention at school and home to promote family function.
