중·고등학생의 아르바이트 참여요인 및 진로성숙에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 한국청소년패널조사 4차년도 자료를 바탕으로 중ㆍ고등학생들의 재학 중 아르바이트 참여요인 및 아르바이트경험과 진로성숙과의 관계를 규명해 보는데 있다. 분석결과 수업몰입도, 용돈만족도가 높아질수록 고등학교재학 중 아르바이트를 경험할 승산비는 낮아지고, 전교성적비율, 과거아르바이트 경험횟수가 증가할수록 고등학교재학 중 아르바이트를 경험할 승산비는 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 중ㆍ고등학생의 진로성숙도는 성별, 부모와의 관계만족도, 학교성적, 진로관련수업참여 여부에 통계적으로 유의미하게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 여학생이 남학생에 비해 진로성숙도가 높은 것으로 나타났고, 부모와의 관계만족도가 높을수록 진로성숙도는 높아지는 것으로 분석되었다. 학교성적이 높을수록, 진로관련수업에 참여할수록 진로성숙도는 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과에 의하면 노동시장에서 실제적인 노동을 경험할 수 있는 아르바이트 경험은 중ㆍ고등학생들의 진로성숙에 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났으며, 오히려 진로관련수업 참여 여부가 진로성숙에 영향을 주는 것으로 분석되었다. 연구결과에 대한 정책함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교에 몰입하지 못하는 학생들이 아르바이트라는 명목아래 노동시장에 나온다는 본 연구결과에 주목하여 학교에 몰입하지 못하는 학생들을 대상으로 다양하고 체계적인 학습프로그램을 제공하고, 정부차원의 학교별 전문상담교사 지원으로 전문상담을 통해 비몰입학생들이 학교에 적응할 수 있는 길을 열어 주어야겠다. 둘째, 중ㆍ고등학생들의 진로성숙은 아르바이트와 같은 현장 경제 속에서 보다는 진로관련 수업에 더 많은 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 중ㆍ고등학생들의 진로성숙도를 높이기 위해서는 전국 중ㆍ고등학교에 다양한 진로교육프로그램이 보급되어야 하며, 학교현장에서 체계적인 진로교육이 이루어질 수 있도록 정부차원의 진로상담교사파견 등 적극적인 관심과 지원이 필요하겠다.

This study aims to examine why middle school and high school students participate in part-time employment (so-called ‘Albeit’) and how their part-time job experience affects their career maturity, by drawing upon the panel data of the KYPS(Korea Youth Panel Survey). Our analysis indicates that the odds of part-time job's experience for the student decrease with higher levels of class immersion and contentment with spending money. The odds of participating in part-time work experience increases with the the incidence of lower levels of academic performance together with the frequency of past part-time work experience. This indicates that students' immersion in the university entrance examination puts them under stress, thereby driving them into the labor market. This also indicates that students' spending appetites affects their desires to participate in part-time employment. Secondly, this study also aims to examine factors such as sex, satisfaction in the parental relationship, academic performance, and attending to career education classes are significantly associated with career maturity. The career maturity of female students appears to be higher than that of male students. Career maturity increases with higher level of the satisfaction of the parental relationship, academic ranking the attending of career education's classes. Attending to career education class has a higher influence on students' career maturity than the experience of part-time work. The experience of part-time work is rather simplistic in that the students gain a limited understanding of the world of work through their work experiences. These findings have a number of policy implications. Firstly, in that young students' part-time work experience affects their deviant behavior, school authority offers systematic programs and professional counselors for students, who lose their immersion in class studies. Secondly, attendance at career education classes has a more positive influence on students' career maturity than their experience of part-time jobs. Therefore, in order to enhance students' career maturity, both schools and government authorities need to provide systematic career education programs and professional career coaching to students at both the middle and high school levels.
