The purpose of this study is to analyze demographic, socioeconomic and residential characteristics of outflow and inflow populations of small and medium sized cities in Korea. The empirical analysis of this study was conducted in two ways: The first analysis identifies characteristics of people who moved from small and medium sized cities to other regions(Model I) and the second analysis identifies characteristics of people who moved to small and medium sized cities(Model II). Our findings showed some significant differences between outflow and inflow populations. ModelⅠ found that the younger and the higher educated people had a higher probability of moving from small and medium sized cities to another regions. The number of household members and the change in marital status were also promoted to move to other regions. On the other hand the agricultural workers and simple labor workers compared with professional and office workers were more likely to stay in small and medium sized cities. In Model II, the probability of moving to small and medium sized cities was higher people with a university degree or higher than secondary educated people. Besides, It was confirmed that the high income people were less likely to move to small and medium sized cities. On the other hand, people who have average level of financial assets had a higher probability of moving small and medium sized cities. Also, The probability of moving to small and medium sized cities was higher agricultural workers and simple labor workers than professional and office workers.-
