Abstract
This study recognizes the hybrid word formation of Korean and Sino-Korean as the lexicalization of Sino-Korean into the Korean vocabulary and aims to reveal the specific and substantial aspects of the process. When studies conducted before mainly focused on the internal workings of Sino-Korean, this study aims to examine the external relationships of Sino-Korean and non-Sino-Korean words, the primary method of the lexicalization process. The studies conducted before were based upon Sino-Korean words that were selected upon the researcher's intuition, or either straight from headwords. However, this paper is more realistic since it is based upon an investigation of frequently used words. By comparing and contrasting two investigations conducted on the frequency of Sino-Korean words that were half a century apart, this research was also able to show the actual modality of the usage of Sino-Korean. However the fact that this paper was not able to compare between the combination between only Native Korean words to the prior combination remains a pity.
