북한 옥류금 연구

Abstract

북한의 악기개량 사업의 결과로 1970년 대 옥류금이 등장하였다. 악기를 발명하는데 있어서 김정일의 교시가 있음을 밝히며 악기에 대한 당위성으로 ‘공후인’ 설화를 이용하였다. 북한에서는 와공후에서 옥류금을 개발하였다 하지만 서양 하프에서 영감을 얻었다고 보인다. 악기의 연주법에 있어서는 가야금의 주법과 흡사하다. 가장 많이 쓰이는 옥류금은 33현이고, 이 악기의 가장 큰 특징은 변음장치 즉 페달이 있다는 점이다. 이 변음장치를 이용하여 전조와 이조가 용이해졌다. 옥류금의 대표적인 연주법으로는 분산화음·아르페지오·트레몰로·트릴·그리산도 등이 있다. 옥류금 연주곡은 민요 선율을 바탕으로 한 곡과 성악곡을 기악곡화 한 곡으로 나뉘어 볼 수 있다. 대표적인 곡으로 <달빛 밝은 이 밤에>와 <꽃피는 이 봄날에> 그리고 <눈이 내린다>가 있다. <달빛 밝은 이 밤에>는 혁명가극《금강산의 노래》에 노래 곡을 옥류금 연주곡으로 편곡하였고, 옥류금에서 양손을 이용하여 화려한 연주를 할 수 있는 점을 살려 연주할 수 있도록 한 기악독주곡이다. <꽃피는 이 봄날에>는 혁명가극《 한 자위단원의 운명》중 노래곡을 옥류금 독주곡으로 편곡하였다. 옥류금의 연주법 중 아르페지오를 활용하여 편곡된 부분이 있다. <눈이 내린다>는 1965년에 창작된 가요 <눈이 내린다>를 기악곡 화 한 곡이다. 이 노래는 항일투사의 모습을 눈이 내리는 모습으로 형상화 한 곡이다. 옥류금의 연주법 중 서정적인 정서를 표현하는 선율을 표현할 때 쓰이는 트레몰로 주법 활용한 곡이다. 북한의 전통음악 혹은 민족음악 연주곡이 한국에서도 연주가 되어 지고 있지만 그 곡에 대한 배경지식이 부족한 실정이다. 북한의 연주곡 중 이면에는 북한의 체제와 사상을 홍보하는 내용의 곡 있다는 것을 인지하게 되었을 때 북한의 음악을 음악의 순수함으로만 보아야 할지에 대한 논의가 되어야 하는 시점이 왔다. 향후 이어지는 남북 문화교류에 있어서도 이점을 유의하고 논의가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

The okryugeum emerged in the 1970s as a result of North Korea’s improvement of musical instruments. It was revealed that there was a decree from Kim Jong Il in the okryugeum’s invention, and the narrative was used to justify the instrument. In North Korea, the okryugeum was developed from the but seems to have been inspired by the Western harp. The method of playing the okryugeum is similar to that of the gayageum. The most commonly used okryugeum has 33 strings, and the biggest feature of the instrument is that it has a , or pedal. The use of this sound transformer makes modulation and transposition easier. Some of the representative techniques for the okryugeum include distributed harmony, arpeggio, tremolo, trill, and glissando. Okryugeum songs can be divided into those based on folk melodies and those that turned vocal music into instrumentals. Some of the most popular songs are On This Moonlit Night, On This Spring Day, and Snowfall. On This Moonlit Night adapted a vocal song in the revolutionary opera The Song of Geumgang Mountain as an instrumental song for the okryugeum, which allows the performer to use both hands for brilliant performance. On This Spring Day adapted a vocal song in the revolutionary opera The Destiny of a Self-Reliant as a song for solo okryugeum performance. Parts of the adapted song are arranged to display arpeggio with the okryugeum. Snowfall is a piece that turned the 1965 song Snowfall into an instrumental. It is an instrumental piece that depicts the appearance of the anti-Japanese protagonist as the snow falls. Tremolo is used to express the lyrical emotions of the okryugeum. While traditional and ethnic North Korean instrumental music is also being played in South Korea, there is still a lack of background knowledge on the music. We have to discuss whether North Korea's music should be viewed purely as music as we realize that, on the flip side, North Korea's instrumental songs promote its regime and ideology. Inter-Korean cultural exchanges in the future should note and discuss this matter.
