- Abstract
- This paper mainly rereads Limb, Ung Sik’s view of photography and practice through cultural discourses in and out his lifetime, so that the paper can enlighten his SangHwal-ism as the flow of his ideology for individual and social subjectivity. To achieve this purpose, the paper firstly rereads his idea about SangHwal-ism during 1950s through analyzing his newspaper articles and autobiography, in order to enlighten the background of his view of photography and photographic practice. Then, this paper will discuss about the practice of his work after 1950s and relate his work with his idea by analyzing his works and related material. Through analyzing, this paper attempts to uncover Limb, Ung Sik’s real meaning of SaengHwal-ism as a practical ideology for changing social gaze toward photography as well.
