Abstract
This research aims at classifying the types of the birth tales and defining the characteristic in the historical books of Korea and China. The birth tales of Dongmyeong and Jumongwere divided into five types according to the opinions of Professor Park Dupo, Jo Huiwoong and Lee Bokgyu. The standards are the hero’s country of origin, the way to be born, the hero’s name when he was born, national name of the founding country, paternal or maternal character. It was ascertained that both countries accepted the contents of history book and historical facts instead of the record of birth tales itself and influenced their own history of books and other’s. Also I examined that the various contents were added to Dong Myeong and literature in <Do Myeong wang Pyeon> of the Koryo Dynasty. It was treated that the contents failed to show Chinese records and the writer's imagination were added on the process of running into <Do Myeong wang Pyeon> and were established as literature with the narrative tension. Those birth tales had been handed down among coming the narrative literature and has established as literary convention and literary culture to show the periodical reality variously in the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty.
