아름다움에 대한 유아의 인식

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 유아가 아름다움을 어떻게 인식하고 있으며, 예술작품에 대해 아름다움을 판단하는 기준은 어떠한지 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위해 경기도에 위치한 두 곳의 유치원과 어린이집의 만5세 유아 80명을 대상으로 면접을 실시하였다. 유아가 일상생활에서 경험하는 내용을 중심으로 하는 질문과 예술작품에 대한 반응을 통해 아름다움에 대한 유아의 생각을 수집하여 분석한 결과, 유아의 아름다움에 대한 인식의 특성은 첫째, 유아들은 대부분 감각적인 미적요소에 기초하여 아름다움을 인식하며, 둘째, 긍정적인 심리적 반응, 풍요로운 관계형성, 내면적 가치, 자율적인 놀이 등의 확장된 아름다움의 정의를 가지고 있었다. 셋째, 아름다움을 해석할 때 상상력과 창의성을 활용하였다. 따라서 유아는 아름다움에 대해 능동적으로 자유롭게 반응하는 존재이며, 성인보다 아름다움에 대한 기준이 유동적이며 개방적임을 알 수 있다. 유아의 아름다움에 대한 인식을 근거로 하는 심미교육은 유아의 미적 인식의 특성을 고려하여 객관적인 미의 요소와 지식을 제공하는 예술교육을 넘어서서 교육과정 전반에 연결되어야 함을 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine young children’s perception of beauty and to investigate how the children decided whether artworks were beautiful. Eighty children of two kindergartens were interviewed in groups of two using semi-structured questions. The results indicate that children perceive beauty based on sensory characteristics and that they have extended definition of beauty, such as positive psychological responses, rich relationships, internal and abstract values, and autonomous play. When they interpret artworks, they use their imagination and creativity. Based on these results, aesthetic education should relate with the whole of preschool curriculum beyond arts activities that provide aesthetic knowledge and skills.
