Abstract
The image sensor’s type and size, which plays the role of film in digital camera, has been changed. In the same manner, the number of pixels has also been increasing constantly. When the number of pixels increases, the size of the image sensor usually gets bigger. To resolve the problem of the growing image sensor, camera developers usually increase the number of pixels by adding more pixels to the image sensor of the same size. However, the picture quality is influenced in many ways when adding more pixels to the same square. This study is about how the number of pixels affects the picture quality when using the same size of image sensor. In this study, I have done a comparative analysis using methods such as resolution, color reproduction, dynamic range, and noise. Those of which are used when objectively evaluating the picture quality. The following results have been found. If there are more pixels in the same size of the sensor, pixel pitch decreases and its distance becomes narrow, resulting in pixel cross-talk. As a result, Blocky Effect occurs which causes color change and the ‘close to the original color’ represented is lowered. On the other hand, in the picture quality and dynamic range, resolution increases and dynamic range becomes wider when there is abundance of light and it is low ISO. However, if there becomes a low light condition and high ISO, SNR rapidly decreases and it has a influence on the picture quality and dynamic range.
