- Abstract
- Video coding standard of H. 264/AVC adopted techniques such as variable block size coding, use of multiple reference frame and rate-distortion optimization. However, these methods of coding have the disadvantage of increasing complexity needed for motion estimation. Thus, in this paper, concerning the probability of MV within each reference frame, we seek to minimize reference frames depending on J cost, which is between the reference frame 0,1 and the same block. Also, this paper concerns how to minimize motion search points according to the size of Motion vector by the distance of reference frame. In the experiment results, when one uses five reference frames, the time used for estimation of the proposed scheme's motion was reduced by 85% on average in comparison with the method of using motion estimation on all reference frames. Additionally, PSNR was somewhat decreased. We find that our proposed approach is effective for videos of rapid motions.
