Abstract
There is a growing interest about the quality of children's living environments. In this study, we investigated 105 existing studies in the field of design and plans related to children's spaces with the intent to identify research trends and provide basic data for future research. To this end, an analysis was conducted on the period, keywords, purpose, method, subject, and findings of the research. In recent years, there is a rise in the number of research about infant spaces compared to the past. The result of the keyword network analysis showed a trend concentrated in the indoor space designed for childcare facilities and early childhood education institutions. Infants' development happens through children’s interaction with their environments, and infants promote development through all their experiences in their living environments. It is considered that continuous research is necessary about the meaning and roles of infant spaces, the directivity of changes, and environments suitable for infant development amongst various spaces for children in order to ensure holistic development for children. Research is also required to present a direction for the future spaces based on the existing spaces. Since the concept of space can be designed through various interdisciplinary studies, we propose convergence studies such as early childhood education and spatial design. Furthermore, this study is targeting on domestic journals, so it indicates the necessity to compare and analyze the research trends about children's spaces internationally.
