칸트의 환경철학 기획과 좌절 - 그의 공간 이해를 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 연구는 환경문제와 관련하여 칸트의 철학을 자의적이고 수정적으로 해석함으로써 그의 철학에 가해지는 비판을 재반박하려는 일련의 시도들이 정당하거나 성공적이지 못하다는 사실을 보여주는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 가장 엄격하고 강한 의미에서의 인간중심주의가 칸트철학의 본질이라는 사실을 대전제로 삼는다. 그리고 우리는 도덕철학과 형이상학을 아우르는 방대한 칸트의 철학체계에서 바로 이 본질을 집약하는 핵심을 ‘선험적 관념론’이라는 개념에서 찾는다. 나아가 우리는 그의 선험적 관념론을 자기의식의 확실성에 기반한 개연적 회의주의로 해석하고 이 해석의 근거에 공간 개념의 의식내재성이 놓여 있다고 주장할 것이다. 다른 한편, 칸트는 선험적 관념론이 독단적 관념론의 한계, 환경철학 논쟁으로 확대시켜 말하자면, 인간중심주의의 한계를 벗어날 수 없다는 사실을 이미 간파하여, 이에 ‘경험적 실재론’이라는 별칭을 부여함으로써 환경철학적 기획을 감행하지만, 이러한 시도가 그의 철학에 면죄부를 주는 것은 아니라고 주장할 것이다. 이상의 논의를 통해 우리는 『순수이성비판』 당시에 쏟아진 선험적 관념론에 대한 당대 학계의 비판과 현대 환경 철학 논쟁에 있어서 생태주의자들의 칸트비판은 궤를 같이 하고 있으며, 인간중심주의는 계몽주의자로서의 칸트의 철학의 본질이기 때문에 생태주의자들의 비판은 정당할뿐더러 칸트의 철학을 생태주의화 하려는 일련의 시도들은 무의미하다고 주장할 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that attempts to refute the critique of Kant's philosophy by modificationed interpretation to Kant's philosophy in relation to environmental problems are illegitimate and unsuccessful. To this end, we will argue that the anthropocentrism is the essence of Kant's philosophy. And this essence is represented in the name of transcendental idealism. Base on the certainty of his consciousness we will interpret the transcendental idealism as a probable skepticism and argue that the consciousness-immanency of space lies on the basis of this interpretation. Through the above discussion, we will assert, that anthropocentrism is the core of Kant's philosophy as an pioneer of enlightenment, the ecologist's critique of Kant is justified, so the attempts to eclecticize Kant's philosophy are pointless.
