- Abstract
- The influences from SNS-usage motivation on interpersonal relationships among university students, and the mediating effect of online and offline social capital were investigated. The survey was conducted from October 29, 2019 to January 10, 2020 by giving a self-reporting questionnaire to university students in Seoul in a random sampling manner. The data set was collected from 76 offline and 312 online survey questionnaires. Of these, 384 cases were used for the final data analysis for this study, excluding 4 cases which were invalid since they did not use SNS. For the analysis of research data, reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, the structural equation model, and path analysis were used and mediating effects were tested by using SPSS 27 and AMOS 27. Among the motivations for SNS usage, the motivation to build interpersonal relationships and the motivation to report self-status directly and indirectly influenced interpersonal relationships but the motivation to gain information and the motivation to watch entertainment did not directly or indirectly influence the interpersonal relationships. Online bonding social capital and offline bridging social capital had a partial mediating effect between the motivation to build interpersonal relationships and interpersonal relationships, and offline bridging social capital had a partial mediating effect between the motivation to report self-status and build interpersonal relationships.
