Abstract
In this paper, a finite element algorithm to calculate field and temperature variation in high voltage direct current (HVDC) cables is presented. The material properties in these systems demonstrate both temperature and field dependencies. The defining differential equations are therefore nonlinear, requiring an iterative technique accurately determine the physical properties. A three dimensional domain is considered. © 2006 IEEE.
