조선전기 부채에 대한 실증적 연구 -조선왕조실록을 중심으로-

Abstract

부채는 약 기원전 3~4세기부터 사용해온 것으로 보인다. 그러나 그 연원에 비해 부채 자체에 대한 연구는 미진한 상태이다. 본고는 조선왕조실록을 중심으로기록에 남아있는 부채의 실증적인 면을 고찰하여 부채 제작의 주체와 부채의 경제적 가치, 부채의 용도 부분을 개략적이나마 밝혔다. 왕실에 진상하는 부채 제작의 주체는 경상도·전라도 두 감영에 소속된 扇子匠과 사찰의 승려들이었던 것으로 보인다. 왕실에 진상되는 부채는 고가의 칠을 하는 등 그 가치가 대단히 높았으며 특히 왕자군이 사용하는 부채의 교환가치는 쌀 800~900斗에 해당하였다. 왕조실록에 기록된 부채의 용도를 파악한 결과 크게 의장용과 외교상의 선물용으로 구분됨을 발견하였고 의장용 扇이 권위를 상징하는 물건임을 밝혔다. 외교상의 선물 사례는 실록 상에서 자주 발견된다. 당시 부채는 동아시아의 일상적인 외교용품이었던 것으로 추정된다. 또한 부채는 신분과 권위를 나타내는 도구이기 때문에 존귀한 자 앞에서는 사용이 제한됨을 밝혔다.

The fan seems to have been used since the third or fourth century BC. But The research on the fan itself is insignificant compared to that. This paper examines the empirical aspect of the fan remaining in the records centered on the Chosun dynasty annals. So, outlined brief that fan making principal agent and fan’s economin value, purpose of fan. It seems that the main subject of the fan making in the royal family was the fan makers and temple monks belonging to Gyeongsang, Jeolla province. The value of the fans in the royal family was very high, for example, they were apply lacquer. Especially, the exchange value of the fan used by the prince was 800~900 of rice mal(Korean unit of measure). The use of the fan recorded in the Chosun dynasty annals was found to be largely divided into court protocol and diplomatic gifts, and it was revealed that the court protocol fan was a symbol of authority. Diplomatic gift cases are often found in the Chosun Dynasty annals. At the time, it was estimated that the fan was a daily diplomatic product of East Asia. Also, because fan is a tool of identification and authority, it is limited in use to honorable ones.
