어린이의 유튜브 및 게임이용시간에 영향을 미치는 부모중재요인 분석: 미취학아동 및 취학아동(초등저학년) 비교

Abstract

본 연구는 부모의 중재가 미취학아동 및 취학아동의 유튜브이용 및 게임이용시간에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 한국언론진흥재단이 2020년 수행한 <어린이 미디어 이용 조사>의 2차 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과 전체적으로 부모의 적극적 중재보다 제한적 중재가 자녀의 미디어 이용시간을 줄이는데 효과가 있었다. 특히 부모의 중재에 잘 순응하는 것이 자녀의 미디어 이용을 줄이는 결과를 초래하였다. 미취학아동의 경우 자녀의 미디어 이용에 대한 제한조치가 유튜브나 게임 이용시간을 감소시킨 반면 취학아동의 경우 전반적 제한 뿐 아니라 부모순응이 미디어이용과 부적인 관련성이 있었다. 이러한 결과는 미취학아동일수록 미디어 이용을 제한하거나 통제하는 제한적 중재가 자녀의 미디어 이용시간을 줄이는데 효과적일 수 있다는 것을 암시해주고 있다. 취학아동의 경우 부모의 중재방식을 자녀가 얼마나 잘 따르느냐가 미디어 이용시간을 줄이는데 어느 정도 효과가 있는 것으로 나타나 자녀와의 신뢰나 친밀감을 높이는 것이 자녀의 미디어 이용을 줄이기 위해 필요하다. 대체로 부모의 적극적 중재는 미디어이용과 관련성이 없었다.

This study analyzed how much parental mediation affected Youtube and gaming use of children among preschool and school children. It analyzed the secondary data of <The Survey on Children’s Media Use> conducted by Korea Press Foundation in 2020. As a result, parental restrictive mediation had an effect on reducing media using time of children rather than parental active mediation. Especially the extent to which children conformed to parents’ mediation procedures led to the decrease of children’s media using time. Restrictive mediation worked in reducing Youtube and game use of the preschool children while conformity to parents as well as restrictive mediation were negatively associated with the media use of school children. This result indicates that restrictive mediation can be effective in decreasing media using time in the case of preschool children. As the extent to which school children conform to parental mediation is effective in reducing media using time, enhancing the credibility and intimacy between parents and children is important to decrease children’s media use. Overall, parental active mediation was not related to children’s media use.
