아동의 수줍음이 사회적 유능성에 미치는 영향: 또래관계 질의 매개효과

Abstract

본 연구에서는 아동의 수줍음과 사회적 유능성의 관계를 알아보고 또래관계의 질의 매개역할을 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울시 소재 3개 초등학교 5, 6학년 학생 200명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였으며 아동의 수줍음 척도, 또래관계의 질 척도, 사회적 유능성 척도를 사용하였다. SPSS 22.0 통계프로그램을 활용하여 각 변인 간 상관분석, 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였으며 Baron과 Kenny(1986)가 제안한 매개검증절차를 활용하였다. 또한 매개검증의 통계적 유의성 확보를 위해 Sobel Test를 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아동의 수줍음과 또래관계의 질, 사회적 유능성 관계를 알아본 결과 수줍음은 또래관계의 질, 사회적 유능성과 서로 유의한 부적 상관을 보였고 또래관계의 질과 사회적 유능성은 유의한 정적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 아동의 수줍음과 사회적 유능성의 관계에서 또래관계의 질의 매개효과를 살펴본 결과 수줍음과 사회적 유능성 관계에서 또래관계의 질이 부분매개효과를 나타냈다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 수줍은 아동의 사회적 유능성 향상을 위해서는 또래관계의 질과의 상호작용 양상을 고려해야함을 규명하였다. 연구결과를 기반으로 수줍은 기질의 아동의 사회적 유능성 향상을 위한 촉진요인을 분석함으로써 아동상담 및 부모교육의 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of peer relationship quality on the relationships between shyness and social competence. Two hundred students in the fifth and sixth year of elementary school in Seoul, South Korea, were surveyed for this study. To examine mediating effects, Baron and Kenny's(1986) model was applied together with the statistical analysis program, and Sobel's test was used to verify the significance of the mediating effects. The findings are as follows. The key findings of this study are shyness had negative correlations with peer relationship quality and social competence, whereas peer relationship quality had positive correlations with social competence. In addition, peer relationship quality played a mediating role between shyness and social competence. In conclusion, this research shows that the quality of peer relationships should be considered when seeking to improve the social competence of shy children. It is necessary for parents to show greater interest in strategic support to improve the quality of peer relationship.
