유아과학교육에 대한 유아교사의 인식 및 요구: 누리과정 운영을 위한 과학교육을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 누리과정 운영을 위한 유아과학교육에 대한 유아교사의 인식 및 요구를분석하여 유아과학교육의 활성화 방안을 모색하는 데 있다. 유아과학교육에 대한 유아교사의인식과 요구 파악을 위해 관련문헌과 누리과정내용을 분석한 후 유아교육 전문가 2인의 협의를 통하여 설문지를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 설문지의 하위 내용은 누리과정 운영을위한 유아과학교육의 목적, 유아과학교육 내용, 학급 내 과학교육의 운영에 대한 교사들의 인식, 유아과학교육 운영개선을 위한 교사의 인식 및 요구 4개로 구분되어있으며 총 16문항으로 구성되었다. 연구대상은 서울과 경기지역의 국ㆍ공립 유치원, 사립 유치원, 국ㆍ공립 어린이집, 민간 어린이집에 근무하는 교사 209명이며 수집된 자료는 SPSS for Window 10.1 Program을 활용하여 각 문항별 빈도와 백분율을 산출하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 교사들은 과학교육 목적으로 유아들의 호기심 및 탐구력 증진의 태도적인 측면에 큰 비중을 두고있었으며 둘째, 누리과정 생활주제 중 자연환경과 연관된 ‘동식물과 자연’, ‘봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울’ 등을 과학 활동에 용이한 주제로 인식하였다. 셋째, 교사들은 과학교육방법의 가장 좋은형태가 누리과정 생활주제와 연계하여 교육하는 것이라고 인식하였으며 넷째, 과학교육과 타영역을 연계하는 가장 좋은 형태로 스토리텔링접근법을 선호하였다. 마지막으로 교사들은 과학교육 연수와 관련하여 체험 중심이 될 수 있는 강의 및 워크샵 형식을 선호하였다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze childhood teachers` awareness and requirements of science education based on the Nuri curriculum for young children and discuss ways to promote the efficiency of science education for young children. A questionnaire was developed based on prior literature, analysis of Nuri curriculum and consultation with 2 professors and used to collect data. The questionnaire was composed of 5 items of 16 questions related to awareness of ‘purpose of science education`, `contents of science education based on the Nuri curriculum`, `operating science education activities` and requirements of `childhood science education` and ‘teacher training program’. The subjects used in this study were 209 early childhood teachers at public and private kindergartens and child care centers. Data analysis was conducted by computing frequency and percentage of each question using SPSS for Windows 10.1 Program. The results of this study are as follows. First, teacher’s realization on the purpose of early childhood science education is to promote inquiring ability and curiosity. Second, teachers realized life theme of the Nuri curriculum such as ‘animals, plants and nature’, ‘spring, summer, fall, winter’ as subject of effective science activity. Third, teachers realized the best method of science education is to relate to life theme of the Nuri curriculum. Fourth, teachers realized storytelling is the best approach for relating science education to other areas. Finally, teachers preferred lectures and workshops as methods of science education teacher training programs.
