- Abstract
- Multi-parent structure is a key feature of a domestic circuit-switched backbone network. This paper investigates the performance of several routing schemes such as random list, first available, maximum idle bandwidth, and dynamic alternative routings in multi-parented networks. For two experimental models which reflect the architecture of a domestic network, simulation studies have been done under various traffic situations of link failure, added link capacity, and traffic asymmetry. Our results show that in balanced networks, fixed routing is a good performer as is expected. When the traffic is unbalanced however, dynamic routing scheme such as the maximum idle bandwidth performs remarkably better over the fixed routing.
