한국 영화제작네트워크 內 핵심 플레이어간의 역할 역동성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 환경의 변화에 대응하여 네트워크 내에서 발생하는 네트워크 플레이어간 역할의 통합과 분리 움직임, 즉 역할 역동성(role fynamics)에 대해 이해해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 네트워크 조직의 한 형태인 1981년에서 2000년까지의 한국영화제작산업의 영화제작프로젝트 조직들을 실증분석의 대상으로 삼았다. 실증분석의 결과 환경변화가 급격한 시기에 한국의 영화제작프로젝트 조직에서 두드러지게 나타나는 역할 역동성의 패턴은 사업영역의 역할분리(제작자역할 분리)와 예술영역의 역할통합(감독과 작가역할 통합)이었으며, 이런 두 가지의 역할 역동성이 함께 반영된 역할조합유형(제작자역할은 분리되고 감독과 작가의 역할은 통합된 유형)의 증가율이 가장 높게 나타났다. 또힌, 환경변화가 급격한 시기에는 이런 두 가지의 역할 역동성이 모두 반영된 역할조합유형의 성과가 그렇지 않은 다른 유형들보다 높게 나타났다. 이런 실증분석 결과를 토대로 본 연구는 역할 역동성은 환경변화에 대한 네트워크 조직의 적극적인 적응과정의 결과로 나타나며, 동질적 산업 내에서는 성과창출에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 역할 역동성 패턴이 빠르게 모방되어 확산될 수 있다는 시사점을 도출할 수 있었다.

By analyzing role composition among producer, director, and screenwriter for project-based organizations in Korean film making industry during 1981-2000, this study empirically examined the concept of 'role dynamics' and its relationships with performance. Literature suggests that organizations tend to integrate homogeneous roles and separate heterogeneous roles as their environmental uncertainty increases. Empirical results of this study show that compared to environmentally stable 1980s(1980-1990), in environmentally uncertain 1990s(1991-2000), more film making organizations integrated homogeneous artistic roles of director and screenwriter but separated heterogeneous business role of producer. Moreover, films with same director and screenwriter but different producer were found to be more successful than films with different producer, screenwriter, and director in 1990s, but not in 1980s. Empirical results of this study suggest that organizations may utilize role dynamics in order to adapt to changing environment.
